North Korea Supplies To Syria
US media quotes UN experts that North Korea
is sending equipment to Syria that can be used in chemical weapons preparation.
According to the report, these items
include acid-resistant tiles, valves, and pipes. It is believed that the UN
report has not yet been released. The Syrian government has allegedly told the
UN panel that the North Korean inhabitants are sports and athlete coaches. The
allegations have come after Syrian forces use chlorine gas, but the Syrian
government denies these allegations. International sanctions are imposed on
North Korea due to its nuclear program.
According to the report, North Korea sent
illegal items to Syria, which include severe heat and acid-resistant tiles,
valves and thermometers. It is said that these tiles are used in a place where
chemical weapons are made. The Wall Street Journal has said that these items
were delivered through China Trade Company in the late 2016 and early 2017 by
sea and dozens of such goods have been sent several times for several years. It
is also said that the agency of the Syrian government's scientific studies and
research center has paid to North Korea through various companies.
The Washington Post has also seen this report
prepared by a UN specialist panel and has reviewed the ban of the United
Nations resolutions on North Korea. Earlier in September 2017, a report said
that the United Nations group is investigating the prohibited chemical,
ballistic missile, and conventional weapons cooperation between Syria and North
Korea.
UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric did not
tell whether or not the leaked report would be released, but talking to the New
York Times said: 'I think the overall message is that, this is the obligation
and responsibility of all member states that They should hold the ban. '
Syria has signed a chemical weapons
agreement, and it has announced that it has lost its chemical weapons reservoir
after the Sarin gas attack in 2013. Thousands of people were killed in the
attack. However, in the civil war in
Syria, the government has repeatedly considered accused of using banned
chemical weapons.
OPCW, an active organization for ending
chemical weapons, said last year, the incident gas attack in Khan Shaikhu area
of Adlab province, killing 80 people, UN investigators have an opinion that the
Syrian air force was responsible for it.
Recent days Syria have allegedly targeted
suspected chlorine attacks, including a Sunday attack on the Eastern part.
There have been decades of military
contacts between Syria and North Korea. Experts say North Korea has provided
military supplies and weapons information for cash worldwide.
The United Nations report has strived to
highlight the efforts of North Korea's illegal trade with various groups in the
countries of the Middle East, North Africa, and Latin America.
Last week, President Trump said Washington
is implementing fresh sanctions on North Korea, which includes more than 50
shipping and naval transport companies of North Korea in different countries.
